Everyone has a vision, a dream life they want to create. More likely than not, you feel like you can’t create your dream life. Like it will never be your reality, so you don’t even try. Or, some people try and try without success in manifesting their goals. In this blog post, I’ll spill the tea on how you can create your dream life in 5 simple steps.

Why should you listen to me? Well, because I’ve been able to achieve some gnarly things in my life so far. I got a full ride to my dream school, I was a D1 track athlete, and I got to travel to Europe for 6 weeks for free, to name a few of my dreams that came to life. And there’s nothing special about me. I didn’t have the best grades and I wasnt the best athlete. I just live my life according to these 5 principles, and luck seems to find me. So let’s dive in.

What Is Your Dream Life?

I can’t tell you what your dream life is. That’s for you to decide (and to create). What I can tell you is that I’m sure your dream life is always changing. The first thing you need to keep in mind when you create your dream life is that it’s not an end goal– it’s an experience. You don’t live your life tomorrow, or ten years from now. You live your life in this moment, and you’ll live your dream life in the present, too.

Why You Should Create Your Dream Life?

Well the easy answer is, why the hell not? You have exactly one life to live. Why not live it exactly how you want it? Who wants to get to their death bed and have their mind race with regrets of what you could’ve, should’ve, or would’ve done differently in your life. When you live your dream life, you choose to live authentically, according to your own rules. That’s the only way to be fulfilled.

And your fulfillment doesn’t just affect you. The world has enough miserable people already. And you know what miserable people do? They throw their negativity onto you and make your day worse. Don’t be one of those people.

But you know what fulfilled people do? They find ways to spread their joy and gratitude, and make everyone’s life better. That’s who you want to me.

So now that you know what your dream life is, and why you need to create it, lets discuss how to do it.

Fool Proof Steps to Create Your Dream Life

Step 1- Remove Subconscious Blockages

Listen, the honest truth is that most of us will need therapy at some point in our lives. Heck, we’ll probably need it more than once! If you have trouble showing up authentically and manifesting you dream life, the root problem is probably your mind. Your subconscious mind is like your programming for every decision you make. Whatever you subconscious mind believes is how you behave.

All this part of our brains knows is how to go towards pleasure and get away from pain. But sometimes we get hurt, or influenced by people in our families and communities who are hurt, and decide to avoid those things, even though they aren’t inherently harmful.

For example, if you grew up with very little money, it may mean that anytime money was brought up it was about not having enough, which is painful. So you may have subconsciously decided that money equals pain. As a subconscious coping mechanism, you might avoid money by way of self sabotage.

So you have to figure out what all you subconscious beliefs are, figure out which ones are blocking you from going after what you actually want (like more money, better relationships, a more fulfilling career), dismantle those beliefs, and replace them with ones that will help you.

This seems like an impossible task, but its quite doable with the right resources and consistency. The personal development school is my favorite resource for information on attachment styles, how they affect every area of your life, and how to change them. If you want to seek actual therapy but don’t have the funds, check out a sliding scale therapy network like Open Path Collective. They show you therapists in your area who allow you to pay what you can between $20 and $80 per session.

Step 2- Get Clear on Your Vision

Next comes a bit of fun. First you clear your mind so that you are free to walk in whatever direction you want. But now, you have to decide a direction to journey in. That’s where vision boarding comes in.

Listen, by no means do I think that because you glued a picture of a maserati to some cardboard that one will be in your driveway tomorrow. The purpose of a vision board is to take the time to think about what you want. You don’t have to use magazine cut outs or even pictures at all, This could be a journaling exercise.

The point is to look at every area of your life: finance, career, relationships, physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. And get very clear about what you want in each area. Its’ okay if your vision evolves over time, but you need this starting point.

Step 3- Get to Work

Now comes the part where it’s time for you to put some work in. Every day you need to do something to work towards your goals. Even if its the tiniest goal that takes 30 seconds. Consistency and time are you friends when it comes to creating your dream life.

The trick to this though, is that you have to work as if your reward is guaranteed. Really, think about this. If you ran a race that you knew you’d lose anyway, you wouldn’t run your best, because you don’t believe you will get the outcome you want. But if you believe you have a shot at first place, you will dig deep to run the fastest you can. And that is what separates the champions from everyone else.

Work hard, work like you know it will all pay off.

Step 4- Accept Help

You don’t have to do it all on your own. Every hero has a wise guide, maybe multiple, who help him on his journey to self actualization. The great part about this step is that it should be the easiest one if you’ve gone through steps one two and three already.

You are clear about what you want, you don’t have any mental blockages stopping you believe you can have it, and you are working hard to create your dream life. Each time I pursue a goal, when I follow these steps, I always find myself around people that want to support me. This is because you can clearly communicate what you want, and you are obviously serious about it because you work towards creating your dream everyday.

When people see that, they want to be the wise guide in your hero story. Whether its connections, money, support, time, knowledge, or any other resources, people will give you help to get where you want to go. And believe me, people are your greatest asset.

Step 5- Manage Your Energy

This is not an overnight process. In fact, it’s a lifelong journey. The most fulfilling journey, too. In order to create and maintain your dream life, ou have to keep these habits up. You must continue to take care of your mental health, work diligently, and ask for and receive help from others.

If you’re anything like me, you have a long list of goals for your dream life. My secret to being such a high achiever is that I don’t get caught up in being perfect, and I don’t do everything at once. If you miss a day of working out and get stuck on it, you risk being so hard on yourself that you ruin the rest of the day, or even the week.

You have to shake stuff like that off and just try again tomorrow, otherwise you risk jeprodizing the future because you’r upset about something that has already happened and that you cannot change.

You also cannot do everything all the time. Energy management is a crucial skill for this to work in the long run. Pick what your three priorities are each day, each week, or each month. For example, at the start of the year, I chose to make my top 3 priorities my career, my fitness, and my finances. This meant that most of my time was spent working, working out and saving money.

Halfway through the year, I decided to switch, and focus on expanding my social circle, traveling, and strengthening my relationships. Naturally that means i was spending more money, and less time working or at the gym. This is balance, and balance is what you need for all of this to come together.
