My Poshmark Journey: Tips for Selling Clothes on Poshmark
I remember when I first started on Poshmark; it was 2020, during the pandemic. My closet was overflowing, and I felt overwhelmed. With so much time on my hands, I figured this was the right opportunity to get started as a seller.
That first year of poshing turned into an amazing adventure. I learned so much about selling, connecting with people, and even helping the environment.
I want to share my journey with you, so you can see that anyone can do this! We all have a unique story, and that story can help you connect with buyers. I learned that showing a bit of myself, and my style, made my closet more interesting. I created the video in this article to further explain my tips for selling clothes on Poshmark. Check it out!
1. Tips for Selling Clothes on Poshmark: Beyond the Share
You might think sharing your listings is all there is to Poshmark, but there’s much more! Let’s talk about the features that can make your sales skyrocket. Did you know Poshmark has an “Offer to Likers” button? This is a great way to send a private discount to people who have liked your items. It can be a small discount, but it often works. In addition to marking down the item, I will often add a shipping discount. It’s important to think about what a buyer will be paying in total (item price plus shipping) when making an offer.
Another feature you can utilize is creating a bundle. When someone likes multiple items, you can create a bundle, and send them a special offer. This is one of many great tips for selling clothes on Poshmark all at once and fast. You can create a bundle on behalf of your likers, or they can do it themselves. I recommend you act fast when your likers create a bundle – provide them with a great deal and do it quickly. I have found that being responsive is key to selling clothes on Poshmark. Lastly, don’t forget about “Closet Clear Out” days where Poshmark helps promote items with reduced prices.
2. Find Your Poshmark Niche
Selling everything to everyone isn’t the best plan. Instead, think about what you love to sell. Do you have a ton of vintage clothes? Or maybe you’re a pro at selling kids’ clothes? Finding your niche will help you narrow down your target audience and market more specifically to them. When you focus on a specific type of clothing, you become an expert. People will start to see you as the go-to person for those items.
For example, if you love vintage, you can create themed listings, and describe the items in a way that vintage lovers will understand. When it comes to my own Poshmark closet, I am mostly selling women’s clothing to those in their 20s. Therefore, I use keywords that would appeal to that audience when creating my listings.
3. Decode Poshmark’s Clothes Selling Algorithm
Poshmark has its own way of showing listings to buyers. It’s like a secret code, but don’t worry, we can crack it! The most important tips for selling clothes on Poshmark is to use good keywords. Using proper keywords will enhance your odds of being searchable/found on Poshmark. SEO, or search engine optimization, is a set of practices designed to improve the appearance, positioning, and usefulness of content in organic search results. Sales happen as a direct result of buyers’ searches.
It’s crucial that you put yourself in the shoes of the buyer when creating your listings. Include words in the listing that they would use to search for your product. So, if you’re selling a blue dress, use words like “blue dress,” “summer dress,” or “casual dress.” Be sure to include the colors, sizes/measurements, and materials – the more information, the better. In the description, I also like to include occasions or seasons the clothes I’m selling on Poshmark would be appropriate for. For example, a sparkly sequin dress may be perfect for summer time, a bachelorette, a disco party, a Halloween costume, etc.
I’ve also had a lot of luck with Poshmark parties. Poshmark has themed parties that run all day long. For instance, there are “Best in Jeans,” “Athleisure Cool,” eco-friendly brands, and Levi’s Poshmark parties among many others. When you share your items with the correct party, your items are shown to more people. The more shares and eyes you can get on your closet, the more sales you will receive.
4. Tips for Selling Clothes on Poshmark Consciously
Did you know that selling your clothes on Poshmark is good for the planet? You’re giving your clothes a second life and keeping them out of landfills. Fast fashion creates a lot of waste, so by selling secondhand, you’re making a big difference. When you ship your items, consider using recycled packaging. You can use old boxes or paper bags. I tend to have so many extra Amazon boxes lying around so I’ll often give those a second life to ship out my Poshmark sales to buyers. Also, when you describe your items, mention how buying secondhand helps the environment. This will attract buyers who care about sustainability.
5. Take Quality Photos of the Clothes You’re Selling
One of the tips for selling clothes on Poshmark that will take your listings to the next level is taking good photos. Make sure your photos are bright and clear. Use natural light when possible, placing your clothes in the sunlight from a window. Show the clothes from different angles, and take close-ups of any details. You can even model the clothes yourself or use a mannequin.
If you can find an image of the exact item from the brand’s site where you bought it, include that as well. Do not only include the site’s images, though. You need to include images of the item in real-time so perspective buyers can see the actual quality.

If you have any flaws on the item, make sure to take a clear picture of those flaws, and include details about it in the description. Don’t overcomplicate it – just ensure your listing includes lots of good quality images.
One of the tips for selling clothes on Poshmark I liked to share with newbies is ensuring the quality of the items is sustained. After taking pictures of your clothes, consider hanging them in your closet as pictured to the left, or keeping them folded neatly in a tote.
6. Writing Great Poshmark Listing Descriptions
Poshmark listing descriptions are like stories for your clothes. Tell buyers everything they need to know within the description. Include the brand, size/measurements, color, and material. If there are any flaws, be honest about them. You want to be as transparent as possible so the buyer knows exactly what they’re paying for. This will also help to protect you as a seller in case a buyer opens a claim against you, stating they didn’t receive what they expected based on listings images and descriptions. The better your description, the more likely someone is to buy your item. Buyers want to have all the information so they can make an informed decision before making a purchase.
7. Pricing Your Clothes on Poshmark
Pricing on Poshmark can be tricky, but it’s important to get it right. Another one of the key tips for selling clothes on Poshmark is looking at what other sellers are charging for similar items. When I’m creating a listing and not sure how to price an item, I search that item in the Poshmark search bar. From there, I will filter the results using the funnel icon to “sold items.” This way, I can see what this type of item has successfully sold for in the past on Poshmark.
You can also consider the original price of the item and its condition. Poshmark will provide a suggested price point based on the brand, condition (New with tag: NWT), and original item price. Don’t be afraid to offer discounts or negotiate with buyers.
8. Ship and Package Your Clothes with Care
When you sell an item, ship it quickly and package it nicely. Use clean boxes or bags, and fold the clothes neatly. Give your sold clothes a quick wash or lint brush rollover if you haven’t already. You can use priority shipping boxes from USPS for your sold listings, or, reuse a box you may having lying around from one of your previous Target/Amazon purchases. Be sure to remove any labels on your box, just as the one pictured below.

Shipping quickly can help your rating and is a seller stat that will appear on your Poshmark profile. For me, the fact that I can ship an item fast has brought me many sales. Because Poshmark’s ship time is relatively quick, lots of buyers come to Poshmark when they need a last minute clothing item.
If you can help get that product to them as quickly as possible, it will surely pay off. You can even add a little thank-you note to personalize the buying experience and make your buyers feel special.
9. Build Your Poshmark Community
Poshmark is more than just selling clothes; it’s also about connecting with people. Follow other sellers, share their listings, and leave nice comments. The more you engage with the community, the more people will notice your closet. You’re essentially running a small business and want to ensure you’re providing an excellent customer experience.
