I struggled to manage my stress and anxiety for a long time, and it got to a point where it was negatively impacting my relationships. I knew I had to figure out a way to manage my stress since it was starting to take over my life. I took the time to truly understand what I needed to improve my wellbeing and have come out of it in a much better place. Here are some of my tips for managing stress. I hope they help you like they have helped me.
Identify What Triggers Your Stress and Address it Individually

Knowing what is making you stressed is the first step to knowing how to reduce your stress levels. If you do not know all of the things in your life that are making you stressed, you can’t begin to identify ways to help bring down your stress levels.
Once you have identified each stressor, write down all of the things you could do to help reduce the impact that stressor has on your life. They can be big ideas or small ideas that are easy to immediately implement in your daily life. If you have a long commute that adds stress to your day, could you invest in a toll pass that reduces the amount of traffic you have to sit in each day. Or maybe adjust your schedule so you travel during lower travel density times of the day. Maybe you struggle to leave your work at the office. Try leaving your documents and computer at your desk so you can’t just login to check your email. Keep work apps off of your phone so you don’t see every notification. Maybe you just feel drained at the end of the day and need a refresh. Try taking a walk if it’s a nice day outside. The sun, fresh air, and movement will help you clear your head and just enjoy the moment. Maybe listen to a podcast or some music you love to help brighten your mood. Identifying and addressing each individual stressor in a specific way can help reduce your overall stress and increase your mental and physical wellbeing.
Make Time for Yourself

Making time for yourself is a great way to relax and refresh. Invest your time in the things that make you happy, relax you, and energize you. Pick up a hobby, make time to exercise, read a book, or take a long bath each night. Whatever it is, making yourself a priority will help take your mind off of the things going on in your life that stress you out so you can refresh and re-energize yourself so you can take on each day and all that it brings.
Stress Relief Supplements
Out of all the tips for managing stress, this one isn’t for everyone and that is okay! A newer trend for stress management is supplements. There are many different kinds of supplements to choose from based on what you are comfortable taking. Recently the CBD trend has really taken off in the supplement world and touts itself as a supplement for stress relief. They have varying amounts of CBD and you can control the amount that you want to take at a time. However, there is the issue of the amount of THC that can be found in them as they are not regulated by the FDA. So, if that is a concern for you, you can explore the other supplement options available. Other supplement options are drug free, focus on herbal ingredients for stress relief and can also contain vitamins. CBD supplements can be found online and in drug stores if legal in your area. Non-CBD supplements can easily be found in stores.
Now it is important to keep in mind that these kinds of supplements can help you manage stress, but they will not ‘cure’ stress. It is still important to understand where your stress comes from and implement other ways to help reduce the impact that the stressors in your life have on you mentally and physically. Supplements are just that, a way to supplement what you are already doing to manage your stress.
Talk to a Friend or Professional

Just let it all out! Sometimes just talking about what is stressing you out can help relieve some stress. Whether you are just looking for a listening ear to vent to or someone to help suggest solutions to your problems, talking to a friend that you are comfortable with is a great way to help reduce some stress. If you feel that you need more support and guidance than what a friend can give, seeking out professional help might be in your best interest. Seeking out a therapist has become more common for people and the options for help have expanded a lot over the years. You can see a doctor in person or online if they offer the service. There are also a lot of online options that can be less expensive compared to seeing a doctor in person. Research your options and pursue the one that suits your needs.

Stress impacts everyone in different ways so make sure you take the time to understand what is causing you to be stressed and find out ways you can help reduce the impact on you mentally and physically.
